June 2016 Clinic Report

Clinic News, Clinic Recaps
On Sunday June 26, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 166 animals, 102 dogs and 64 cats.  This was a good clinic with some very sad moments for a couple dogs whose problems were so advanced that they could not be saved.  That is why, in addition to our clinics, we support education in the schools where children (and their parents through them) can be taught about the importance of caring for and feeding their domestic animals.  The work that Joan started in the schools is being carried on by Magaly and other wonderful Animales  volunteers. We always say that no animal will be turned away for inability to pay.  This month’s clinic provides a good    example of how that affects us and our resources. This month, out of the 166…

April, 2016 Clinic Recap

Animals and Critters, Clinic News, Clinic Recaps
On Sunday April 24, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 175 animals, 85 dogs and 89 cats – a first to have more cats than dogs.  We had four vets working. It seemed like a slow day because our vets took time to care for some animals in distress. Among some of the problems presented, a dog who had gotten too close to a porcupine and had to be sedated while the quills were pulled from the inside of his mouth…who knew we even had porcupines here?! No matter how busy or how many animals are lined up, the vets never rush and always take the time to care for animals in need. We had some wonderful new volunteers that we hope will continue to work with us in future…

February and March Clinic Recap

February and March Clinic Recap

Clinic Recaps
On Sunday February 21, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 135 animals: 74 dogs and 61 cats thanks to the 4 vets who participated in the clinic. On Sunday March 20, Animales spayed or neutered 63 animals: 41 dogs and 22 cats with 4 vets participating. We were able to close up by 1:15 pm, which was a good thing because, as promised, the power went off at 12:20. A loss of power would have greatly impeded our progress, to say the least. At this most recent clinic, we passed another milestone – we sterilized our 10,000th animal! Do some simple math and you can see what a tremendous difference this has made for the animals and residents in Boquete and the surrounding areas. Of course, none of this could…

January 2016 Clinic Recap

Clinic Recaps
On Sunday January 31, 2016, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 238 animals - 144 dogs and 94 cats.  With eight (8!) vets working, the last animal went through at 3:30 and we closed up around 5:30. There were several other surgeries that day as well for tumors, and the last animal of the day was a dog with a huge hernia that had all the vets and many other medical people gathered around to observe this surgery. Truly amazing! 238 was not quite a record for us; that record was set in January 2014 at the school in Los Naranjos. We are happy that our new facility allows us to be able to take care of so many animals in one day, but as always our first concern is for the…

To our friends and animal lovers

Clinic Recaps, Official News
Fundacion Amigos de Animales has had a great year that saw the opening of our very own facility in which to hold our clinics and community events. We have spayed or neutered over 9500 animals in the Boquete area; this year alone, we sterilized 1907 animals. We have established feeding stations throughout the community to aid homeless animals and we provide life-saving food for helpless kittens and puppies brought in to our clinics. Our education program has begun working with the schools to teach the children how to care for their pets. Our goals for 2016 are to continue to provide low cost spay and neuter services for the dogs and cats of our community. We plan to expand our education program so that it can reach even more school…

October 2015 Clinic Recap

Clinic Recaps
On Sunday October 25, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 181 animals:  88 dogs and 93 cats. While this was not as big a clinic as planned, it was plenty big and went very well.  This year, at several clinics, the number of cats brought in equaled or surpassed the number of dogs; the cat trappers have been hard at work. Our annual total for 2015 is 1907 animals: 1062 dogs and 842 cats, the percentage for cats having gone up considerably from prior years.  Our total for 10 years is now 9577 animals; we should hit 10,000 by mid-year 2016! Hard to believe that we have completed a full year in our new facility.  Every time we walk into our new home, we are all filled with such gratitude and…

September 2015 Clinic Recap

Clinic News, Clinic Recaps
On Sunday, September 27, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 154 animals: 73 dogs and 81 cats, with 5 wonderful vets working all day. This year we have seen the trend of having as many or more cats as dogs at our clinic.  A good thing for the cat population, not necessarily a good thing for our guys doing intake.  The cats come in fighting and hissing, scratching and biting….just ask Dave or Phil or Ken how it feels to be on the receiving end of a seriously annoyed kitty!  But, thanks to those who are brave enough to trap and bring in these cats, they will now go on to lead healthier and more peaceful lives. Our pot luck lunches have been very successful.  As well as working hard, our…
